Overview:

This full day program provides you with the skills to utilise the most commonly used database management program “MS Access”. Regardless of whether your company database is Access or SQL this course will introduce the basics of a relational database and how to best utilise this functionality using geological data. It introduces you to basic database management principles which will assist all geologists to better capture and analyse field data.

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to create queries to extract relevant information and confidently view their data through Access.


Recommended for:

People who want to enhance their data interrogation ability. No prior knowledge of MS Access is required.


Pre-requisite:

A basic understanding of computers and standard "Office" software.

• Introduction to Access – Viewing data
• Importing data
• Exporting data
• Select queries
• Action queries: update, append, delete and make table
• Database integrity: relationships, constraints, field lookups
• Case study: creating relational database, importing and interrogating data
